Wise Woman bring their heady collision of lush vocal harmonies, cinematic cello and 90s girl power as part of their UK tour, tonight celebrating International Women’s Day. Theatrical DJ and queer music curator Auntie Maureen will also keep the dancefloor moving!

Hailing from the East Anglian and Welsh wildlands, the power-folk 4-piece formed in the darkness of a pandemic winter. Their “startling and shimmering” (Folk Wales) songwriting, blending folk, jazz and musical theatre has has enchanted audiences far and wide. Their live show journeys through their acclaimed debut EP ‘Thread’ (2022) as well as innovative arrangements of traditional folk favourites. From fenland witches to Boudicca and the smoky underbelly of 1905 New Orleans, their intricate music transports audiences on a theatrical dream ride through forgotten worlds and everyday treasures. The band release their ‘Home Safe’ with a video starring dancer and The Place Associate Artist Anders Duckworth in April, 2024.

Theatrical DJ and queer music curator, Auntie Maureen likes to dig deep, rendering audible the sonic stories of the invisible, the forgotten and the erased. Queering up DJ sets, she / they have swayed dancefloors at proud events including Kew Gardens’ Queer Nature Lates, Happy Valley Pride’s 2023 rowdy Big Bingo Show hosted by Timberlina, Tate Britain’s Queer Britannia and more.
