The Ancoretto Ensemble portray the musical journey of urban songs of early 20th century Greece, travelling from port to port, carrying diverse influences, and evolving through time. This show is part of the Rebetiko Carnival 2025!

The urban folk songs of the early 20th century in Greece are a unique blend with influences from the music of the Asia Minor coasts, the Near East, the Greek countryside, and European serenades. From port to port in the Eastern Mediterranean, people carry music through time. Theodora Athanasiou and Alexandros Kentris play the lavta, boulgari, guitar, and bouzouki, following this musical journey. They explore the different aspects and expressions of folk tradition, illuminating the path towards modern creation.
