Saturday night with renowned jazz, afrobeat, dance and avant-gardé musician Bukky Leo and his Afrobeat Quartet, supported by The Pear Blossoms, a fantastic string band duo from Texas and Ontario playing old-style originals and live renditions of classical ragtime and American parlour music tunes long forgotten…

Headliner Bukky grew up in Lagos Nigeria, where he was spotted practising his first saxophone by the original afro-beat drummer Tony Allen. He went on to play with the great Fela Kuti, developing his distinct style of jazz and afrobeat, and became one of the forerunners of the acid jazz scene. His band tonight features the legendary Kofi Adu of the highlife internationals on drums, the irrepressible Dennis Davies of Osibisa and Black Egypt on bass, and the unique Dan Waldman of the roots and groove fraternity on guitar and effects.

In support, The Pear Blossoms are Alexander Jones (Texas, USA) and Dayna Pirso (Ontario, Canada). Both have spent their entire musical careers steeped in Americana, focusing on pre-war era jazz and blues, and each are accomplished musicians in their own right, having played music of all genres in every corner of North America and in Europe. Theirs is a craft that is only made possible by countless hours spent in the archives, with great dedication and reverence.
