Feel the fire of Cumbia directly from Colombia! Join is for a show bringing you the traditional instruments and rhythms of Cumbia – gaita, puya and porro, bullerengue, etc!
The show will introduce us to the evolution of Cumbia from its origins to the modern era, showing different ethnic traditions from the indigenous influence of the Gaita and the maracas, the African polyrhythms and Spanish lyrics.

JhonPaez! (Cumbiamba y Corrinche): With more than 20 years of experience playing alongside artists as Los bajeros de la Montana, Hermanos Yepes, Gaiteros de San Jacinto and the legend Sixto Salgado “Paito” among others, multi-instrumentalist Javi Lopez MD is also known from Caracoli, a band who raised the Colombian cumbia scene in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Pio Molina! One of the most charismatic and celebrated voices of Colombian folklore, Pio started his musical journey as a dancer, musician and composer, a part of musical projects such as Son de la Provincia (Gaiteros carmen de Bolivar), Anfibio, la BOA, Teatro Tierra, Danza Comun among others. He has won awards on national folklore festivals such as the Gaita Festival.

Mar Morales (Estado Zambo) + Nachin Fonseca! One of the new emerging artist in the Colombian music scene, Mar brings her gaita sounds. Nachin, a multi-instrumentalist and folklore connoisseur, also bring his knowledge from los Montes de Maria!

Cumbia, the musical backbone of Latin America is taking London by storm. The rise of this rhythm is spreading fast through new generations that have the opportunity to receive this knowledge directly from the legendary icons of traditional folkloric music. They luminaries bring elements of three different cultures – American Indigenous, African and Spanish; the result of the long and intense meeting of these cultures during the Conquest and the Colony.
