A real treat awaits those who attend the final Darkly Artful of 2014, as two very diverse acts of astounding musicality will be taking to the Jamboree stage

VULA VIEL: /v?’la vi:’?l/

Vula Viel means Good is Good in Dagaare, the language of the tribe in Upper West Ghana where Bex Burch lived and played music for 3 years. Now it is the name of Bex’s new group with London’s finest musicians: Jim Hart, Dan Nicholls, Tom Challenger, George Crowley, Dave Smith, Simon Roth, Dave De Rose and Stephen Burke.

Live at Friday Tonic, Southbank Centre, 3rd October 2014

The band, based around the Gyil (the Dagaare xylophone made of sacred lliga wood and buzzing gourd resonators) brings the powerful ancient Dagaare music to an original and exciting western sound. Vibes compliment the gyil and bass keys, two drummers hold down and thrash out the nucleus of rhythm and the wailing sax on top is the voice of the Dagaare songs.

Seeing is believing with this band, and you’ll be glad you came, to find that good is most certainly good.
