Join us for a special one-off show in which the Jewish East End is brought to life, a kicking and screaming Golem of a tale, wrought by the delirious music of Don Kipper and the might of Nick Cassenbaum’s pen…

In Yiddish Bubbemeises means a grandmother’s story, a tall story, an old wives’ tale.

Street performer Nick Cassenbaum comes indoors to invite you into the secret world of East London’s last authentic bath house. A profoundly hilarious coming of age tale as Nick tries to find where he fits and just what tribe he belongs to. To help him along the way is his blind grandfather Alan, the famous Eddie Bloom and Norman the lump of lockshen.

Schlaping through summer camps barber shops and Spurs games…He finds what he was looking for…but it wasn’t easy.

This is a storytelling show full of true stories about identity, home and getting schmeised (washed) by old men.

“The funniest Jewish writer since Howard Jacobson”
Daniel Gouly, Don Kipper

Nick is a playwright, street performer, and co-artistic director of the company Slap Haddock, a site-responsive theatre company that works in community contexts. Nick spends a lot of time walking around the streets hoping that something will finally happen to him so he will have a story to tell. Fascinated by London’s hidden spaces Nick creates work that he hopes will ask you to think differently about the spaces and places you live in.
